Do I have to be a DPC doctor to attend?
While the retreat addresses issues specific to DPC physicians like personal safety for solo micro-practices, all female-identifying physicians are welcome to attend! This will be a weekend of empowerment, recharging, and connecting no matter what model of medicine you practice. This retreat is also perfect for the DPC-curious, to learn to establish boundaries and systems from the beginning to build a sustainable, burn-out proof practice.

Why is the retreat just for female-identifying doctors?
A 2023 study concluded that female physicians experience burn out at a higher rate than male counterparts, due to multiple workplace and home factors. A 2022 study concluded that Female physicians spend more time working in their EHR portal messages because both staff and patients make more requests of female PCPs. The consequences? A 2025 study suggested that female doctors may experience decreased longevity compared to women in other high earning industries. Because of the direct access nature of the DPC practice, as well as internal factors, these effects are more pronounced in female-identifying DPC physicians. This retreats provides practical tools to address these issues in a safe space for female-identifying physicians to build sustainable, burnout proof practices.

Setting boundaries is crucial for maintaining mental health in medicine.
Automation can help physicians focus on personalized patient care.
Dr. Adame emphasizes the importance of compassion for oneself.
Misconceptions about burnout often blame individual resilience rather than systemic problems.
Guest Speaker: Dr. Marina Capella
Marina Capella, MD, MEd is an integrative pediatrician in Salt Lake City, Utah. She went to top-notch schools like Stanford and Harvard to pursue her dream of serving her community as a pediatrician, only to become quickly disillusioned in the real world of medicine. After seven years of working in community health centers and pediatric urgent cares, she felt burned out and fed up with the lack of autonomy and daily chaos of an insurance-based system. In 2021 she launched Healing Arts Pediatrics, the first pediatric DPC in greater Salt Lake. Being a DPC pediatrician has rekindled the joy of being a pediatrician and ignited a passion for helping other pediatricians reclaim freedom and joy in medicine. She is originally from California (and will always be a Californian at heart) and now lives with her husband, house rabbits, and cat in Salt Lake City.
Session Title: Harnessing the Power of Self-Hypnosis for Mind-Body-Spirit Wellness
In this session, Dr. Capella will teach attendees how to harness the power of their mind and imagination -- through self-hypnosis techniques -- to achieve greater physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. She is certified in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) and has taken multiple courses from the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (NPHTI) and other master hypnosis practitioners. She also loves incorporating healing touch and somatic therapies to help strengthen and heal the mind-body connection and will review some somatic self-treatment techniques for releasing accumulated stress and emotions.
