Drinks, Snacks, and More

We recommend you only drink water. With meals. In between meals. No additives. We advise avoiding snacks in general, except fresh fruit. But, when you are on the go or you need that caffeine fix….

Coffee

Order a latte with oat or almond milk from your favorite coffee shop. No sugar or flavorings. It takes a while to get used to this. Start by decreasing the sugar added by 50%, then slowly decrease it every 2 weeks, until you are drinking sugar free coffee. Note: this is only if you drink coffee daily. If you only have coffee as a rare treat (less than once per week), order it your way. If you want to make some small changes, use oat or almond milk and say no to the whipped cream.

Ginger Shots

We love ginger shots. We have Vitamin C and Cuke-Blackberry ginger shot recipes. Great for after work outs, to curb hunger during fasting, as a pre-lunch appetite curbing drink, and to impress your friends with how tough your taste buds are. Ginger boosts metabolism and has anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger shots are easy to make. Using these recipes, I divide into two batches. One batch lasts me about a week.

Hunger Buster

When embarking on a health journey, cravings can be a serious concern. Planning ahead with a “hunger buster” snack pack is a solution. Quick, healthy, easy, economical. As your body adjusts to your new lifestyle, eventually you may not need this hunger buster at all. Play around with different nuts, seeds, crackers, fruits, and dips to create fun packs that the whole family will like. Do not spend money on pre-packaged ones. You can make better ones at home. See photo below.

Pesto, Tomato, and Avocados on Crackers

See photo below. Not much more to say. When you have the pesto already made, this is a quick and easy and healthy snack. It can even be dinner if paired with some fruit.

Herbal Tea

One thing to think about…consider substituting coffee with caffeine-free herbal tea, even if it is just a few times per week. I make herbal tea by steeping fresh grated ginger, peppermint, and a crushed cinnamon stick in a tea pot. The ritual of tea making is soothing. With good herbal tea, there is no need to add cream, milk, or sugar.

Vegan Zucchini Brownies

This is a decadent, delicious treat. No one will guess its vegan. I like to shred and freeze zucchini from our garden and then use it to make this dish in the cold of winter when I am craving something sweet.
